Install on Custom PC?

Hi, I have recently made a custom pc. I don't know how to get my current windows installation onto it without it deactivating or me having to pay. Any help would be appreciated

What is your current Windows installation? You need a retail license to transfer Windows from one PC to another. If you upgraded from a retail Windows 7/8/8.1 on the old PC, then you need to remove the Windows operating system from the old PC, activate the Windows 7/8/8.1 on the new PC and then upgrade to Windows 10.

What I have done when I wanted to keep all my programs and settings is: I have installed my Windows 7 on the new PC, activated it via phone activation, captured the genuineticket.xml file using gatherosstate.exe found in the sources directory of the Windows 10 install media. Copied genuineticket.xml file to a USB flash drive.

Moved the SSD containing Windows 10 from my old PC to new PC, and then copied the genuineticket.xml file into the correct folder in Windows 10 on the SSD in the new computer to activate it.

It is Windows 10 Pro x64 Fully Activated

See my edit to post #2 :-)

OEM or Microsoft? If OEM, it ain't gonna happen [unless ya jump thru some hoops!]. If Microsoft - you're in business

I think is OEM

I think is OEM
An oem (or win8 system builder) windows license is tied to 1 motherboard so you cannot transfer it to a new pc. A retail license can be transferred to another pc if the old pc no longer uses that windows license.

Oh damn it

I think is OEM
One other thing about OEM versions, if the disc has a brand name on it, such as Dell, Acer, Gateway, etc., it usually is coded to recognize only that brand equipment and sometimes only certain models within that brand. The System Builder OEM version, without a brand name, is usually cheaper than the Retail version but as mentioned it is tied to the computer it is first installed on. I've not had problems with the System Builder on a Custom computer, just have to be sure to have the drivers for the motherboard.
