Hello all,
I've been trying to upgrade my PC from Win 8 Pro to Win 10 Pro but after about 2/3's way into it, I see a message stating that it's Reverting back to the previous version of Windows.
In the past 3 attempts at upgrading, I tried to keep an eye on it to catch the point where this happens so I can see what needs to be fixed, but haven't been able to catch it.
Of note, when I initially run the upgrade program it does do a diagnostic checkup on my system in which everything shows to be fine and continues with the upgrading process for a good 1.5 hrs.
Is there anyway to find out what's causing it to Revert back (without sitting at the screen for a few hours)?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
Ps.
The specs in my sig is a different PC.
Have you uninstalled all third party anti-virus and anti-malware programs? Have you removed all unnecessary hardware, especially from USB ports? I'm not familiar at all with troubleshooting from the upgrade log files, but others are here.
Yes, I uninstalled the AV programs but haven't removed any USB hardware. The only thing I have hooked up are the mouse, Edimax Wireless internet adapter, and a Logitech webcam.
Should I unplug the webcam? (the others, I'll need )
I would unplug the webcam. If you download the ISO file for Windows 10 and either mount it or create a USB flash drive of it, you can run the Anniversary upgrade from there and don't need the Wireless internet adapter installed to do that until (if) after the upgrade finishes.
Thanks NavyLCDR!! I'll try that tonight.
If the upgrade fails and I don't find a somewhat simple solution to fix the Reverting issue, I'll just do a clean install of Win 8 Pro. Would I have any issues registering it with Microsoft (since support is discontinued)?
Widows 8.1 mainstream support does not end until 9/1/2018.
