hi all
I have tried multiple ways to upgrade using the free windows 10 upgrade - ISO, USB, download, insider/preview. All of them stop at some point during the installation. In searching the internet looking for specifics with this desktop, it appears to be a common issue with this alienware model.
All of the installations appear to get a reboot error, at different points.
To start, here is my pc. I have removed all the extra hard drives, extra monitor, and other peripherals as suggested in other threads.
intel core i7-2600 @ 3.4GHz
16gb RAm
64 bit windows 7 home premium - genuine and activated.
Alienware Aurora R3
BIOS is A06 which is the latest, just updated.
The latest update gave the error. windows 10 couldn't be installed. failed 1 update.
errors found:
c1900101-30017 windows update encountered an unknown error.
Installing from usb or iso gives a boot error in stage 1 or stage 2. I can certainly do it again if needed.
I have followed the turorials and still get the same errors.
Any help would be wonderful.
I can provide any other information needed.
thank you.
You have probably seen this answer in microsoft blog? Looks odd enough to try:
This is copy and paste from this ms.blog topic (look for Nillwarp's post):
The answer is pretty simple: the Windows 10 upgrade is buggy as h.ell, even 5 months after release, which is a shame.
The solution: after each automatic reboot (30% and 75%), be prepared to hit the key to enter the BIOS, so either Delete or F2 key. When in BIOS, just Save and Exit and the installation will quit freezing. This may look stupid but this worked for many people (if not all) having the same issue. This did the trick for me.
Good luck!
Edit: also should ask first. Did you try clean install on fresh formatted disk?
just for the point the usb was made boot able right? and over 4 gb
hi guys
I did the interruption as suggested. The problem is that when it reboots I hear the fan rev up but my monitor stays dark with the power button orange (that is just what happened now). (this was at like 40% or so)
usb was 16gb and bootable yes.
Trying the interruption method again.
I admit, that this is craziest method I've ever heard of.
I have some problems with Windows 10 restart. It just friezes. But off and then on button works normally for me.
yes, upgrading my laptop was so much easier!
interrupting each reboot during installation (when the alien face was there) solved the issue.
I knew the answer but needed reassurance it was ok to do. thanks guys!
I am in windows 10 but it didnt install drivers for my keyboard lol. working on that after giving the kids a bath!
No! This really worked? Can't believe.
Great job!
looks good now. thanks all!
crazy right!?
