My old set up was windows 7 desktop and Mac OS Yosemite MacBook air (MBA), Both computers can share files. My desktop was connected to an Ethernet modem/wired and my MBA wifi is access via wireless router, Everything is working and I replaced my desktop w/ new Win machine w/ OS 8.1- still file sharing is working no problem at all.
Now have upgraded to HP Pavilion desktop with OS Win 10 home single language- now I cannot share files anymore .
I can see the icon of MBA in my windows desktop and when I click it prompted me to enter password in Windows security, when I enter my Password it says error code 0x80070035 The network path not found.
This is what I have done in Windows Machine
1.On the network Sharing center - I did not create Homegroup (I believe it can still access/share files w/o creating homegroup on the network ). But just to troubleshoot, I also I tried making home group and prompted me password but still I cannot share files for both computer even when I enter the PW created from Homegroup
2. I enabled the sharing by right clicking the desktop icon/ properties and enabled sharing and advance sharing and tick/enabled checked all the permissions.
3 Tried Map network drive in windows and entered the type of network name in the MBA sharing window and browse and it prompted me again my password in windows security nothing happens.
4.under change advance settings, my current profile is private, discovery is check as well as file and printer sharing is ticked and homegroup connection is ticked.
5. Disabled my Norton AV firewall too.
This is what I have done in MBA
Under System preferences
1.Under "Sharing" I have enabled file sharing , under options check share files and folders using SMB and share files and folders using AFP
Below this is the Windows File sharing , I have check the account name
2. Under "Network/ Wifi connected/ Advanced / WINS- the Workgroup name is "WORKGROUP
3. During the Map network drive in windows above refer to # 3, I have tried entering the local network ???MacBook-Air.local
I also tried entering the smb://my ip address
Hope someone can help me to troubleshoot the problem. The customer support told me to contact my ISP provider as I was told that under my Ethernet connection the IPV6 should be enabled, as of now only IP v4 is enabled. This is the requirement for Windows 10? Network problem is beyond their scope I have contacted the Local distributor of HP and according to them only hardware are under warranty and this is beyond their scope.
Thanks in advance!!!!
Hi and welcome to windowssh blog.
I don't have a solution, but rather a workaround which I had to do for someone. I formatted an external drive to FAT32, and hooked it up to the USB connection on the Airport router. I was then able to share files between the W10 machine and MAC.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Mac OS uses Samba. Windows uses a neutered version of Samba, along with the fact that there is an issue that the guest access was shut off by Microsoft in Windows 10, because they saw it as a security risk.
