How to set screen resolution to 1920 x 1200?

Can't work in Photoshop, because aspect ratio is stretched on my monitor. When I try to alter the screen resolution, 1920 x 1200 is not shown. In "Generic Non-PnP Monitor and MS Basic Display Adaptation," window states: my monitor (Dell U2412MB) device not migrated... Device Display_Default_Monitor could not be migrated. How can I fix this problem?

Seems do not have right graphics driver, as it is using Microsoft Basic one.Do you know if have slot card or integrated into the motherboard ? When plug monitor cable to the PC, can see where it goes, slot card. Exact model of Dell can help us, help you more. Graphics adapter is either NVIDIA or AMD (ATI)

NVIDIA
Dell model: Studio XPS 9100
Processor: Intel(r) Core (TM) i7 CPU 960@3.20 GHz

Do not know about motherboard... Monitor plugs into white adaptor (about 2.5 x 1.5 x .4 inches. Adaptor plugs into outlet in lower rear of computer.

I am not good at the technical hardware aspects of computing.... but trying to learn what I need to fix this disturbing problem!

This system can come with 2 different model graphic adapter, NVIDIA and AMD, can go to Device manager and open Display adapter, right click and if it says Microsoft basic, select update driver software and select search automatically.

Pic below is where plug it in number 1 area or 2 ?

Thank you!

I found this about the location of the MS basic display adapter: PCI Slot 55 (PCI bus 3, device 0, function 0)
Does that help?

From what I see at Dell support:

Product Support | Dell US

your PC could have come with any of a variety of graphics cards. It does not have integrated video. (That's good. Integrated video is usually fair to poor at best, for purposes that are at all demanding.)

You'll have to find out which card you have to get the proper drivers. You may be able to get them from Dell by calling their support and giving them the service tag number. They should have the original shipping configuration of the box.

To avoid confusion, you may prefer not to mention that you're upgrading to 10. Dell doesn't support Windows 10 on your PC, but that doesn't mean that it won't work. They simply don't certify that it will work, and won't help you install it. It was a high-end PC in its day, which wasn't long ago. Should be fine.

Thank you!

Your welcome, most likely the issue is the missing driver.
Did you try to search for driver update in Device manager, otherwise for me to know for sure which card is in that slot (brand) can try post screen shot of this free software otherwise

Thank you!

Nope.

If you go into Device Manager, Display Adapters, choose the device, go to the Details tab, and select Hardware IDs, that may correspond to the actual device ID of the card. Get the shortest one. For example, my graphic card's ID is PCIVEN_10DE&DEV_0DD8&CC_0300. Google tells me that it's an nVidia Quadro 2000, which is correct.

Thanks, saw many different drivers AMD and NVIDIA why i can not know which driver, did not realize fact of incompatibility though being 2010 model. Slot card.

Thanks, bobkn...

I found exactly the same hardware ID as you have (PCIVEN_10DE&DEV_0DC5&CC_0300). Now what?
