ooops i clicked no instead of cancel while trying to save a document... the computer didnt crash or anything and hasnt been rebooted since.
is this file by any chance recoverable?
Yes, download portable version of MiniTool Power Data Recovery, or any number of very good folder/file recovery utilities, onto either DVD or USB stick -- from the stick: you will have to hunt for that file. The recycle bin may even have a prior version of that file. Piriform's Recova is another very good utility for quick N easy file recovery.
I don't know how a file, which had not been saved on disc, should be recoverable from there.
Word often auto saves work in process us a file starting with a $. Look in your Documents folder or wherever you were working and see if there are any.
Try to open C:UsersDussaultAppDataRoamingMicrosoftWordPad as Wor83DB.tmp.
May be there is temporary files. Other than that, you are out of luck.
Or you can try data recovery software.
Open the .doc in Word 2010 and save as .docx.
Create a copy of the .docx file and rename the .docx extension to .zip.
Open the .zip file using WinZip (assume other compression tools will work as well)
Navigate to the word/embeddings file to view the embedded .xls files. (normally, you should be able to open the extracted files directly in Excel, but they don't open or crash Excel in this case)
Drag and Drop the .xls files from the zip interface to a desktop folder.
In the .docx file that was saved earlier delete the original .xls files, then use the Insert->Object->Create from File and Browse the where the new .xls files are located and select the first .xls file. Select the Display as Icon option and OK. Do this for each of the remaining .xls files.
The newly embedded .xls file should now be readable within Word.
Read it:
You may be able to find it as a temp file under your Temporary Internet Files folder, but that's a long shot in my mind.
There may be remnants of the file so put %temp% in the Search box or, if showing, in the Run box [or press Windows + R], the usual place for temporary files [other than Temporary Internet Files used by Internet Explorer]. But Wordpad is a Lite version of Word and doesn't have all the features so that may not work the same as in Word.
