Hi,
I have the upgrade from win7 retail to Win10 x 32 on 1 drive and have installed from DVD Win 10 x 64 on another drive as a dual boot while I set up the 64. Both work fine.
I have an Active Product key for the 32 but the 64 keeps wanting me to Activate.
As I am not going to use the 32 anymore and it was from a retail Win7, can O use the Prod key from the 32 into the 64?
Thanks
This is unclear. Upgrades do not get a product key but a digital licence tied to hardware id. It is irrelevant if OS is 32bit or 64bit.
If the 64bit version did not activate, then you have a mismatch eg you must install same version home/pro and additionally edition (normal, EU N or SL single language version) as the upgraded version.
Thanks for the reply.
The 32 bit which I am using right now says.. Windows is activated and shows the Product ID: as 0300-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXX88.
Edition Windows 10 Pro Version 1511 OS Build 10586.545
Yes maybe I selected Windows Home when I did the install from the DVD.
If so how can I get back to Pro x 64 without having to lose all my new settings, shortcuts, programs etc?
Thanks again
As far as I know, going from 32 bit to 64 bit requires a clean install. Your settings, shortcuts, and programs will all need to be re-installed.
Sorry that I can't offer better news.
Hi again.
Sorry but is is confusing even to me and I'm up to my neck in it :-)
Yes the 64 was a clean install from the DVD onto another drive than what the 32 is on and it works fine except every now and then it says to Activate. I think I chose Home on this install instead of Pro which my 32 Win 10 is on the other drive.
Do you know if the Activation process includes the hard drive in its checking or just the mobo etc.
These two drives are all in the same box.

Supposedly, it's the motherboard that determines the system.
You need to install the version that matches the original activation (Pro).
Many thanks
