How To Stop Windows 10 Updates During Public Powerpoint Presentations

Love the forum, got a ton of information lurking, decided to join and participate.

I am running Windows 10 via Boot Camp on the new MacBook Retina. I have always had the slimmest/lightest notebook as I travel extensively for work and the new Apple product is impossible to beat in that regard (and Sony went out of the VAIO business). I hate OSX, never run it, I just boot straight to Windows 10 and things are awesome. Except...

I am usually the key presenter at important board meetings and customer meetings. I have a big/heavy notebook at work which I use 90% of the time, but when I hit the road I'm using my sleek/light Windows 10 MacBook. Issue is, when I arrive at my destination and am shown to the presentation room, I boot up Windows 10, launch the Powerpoint file from Dropbox, and -boom-, within 5 minutes I'm speaking in front of a large group.

I am concerned that at my next presentation, I'll whip out my thin/light notebook and as I start presenting I'll see some message about Windows 10 updating -or- Windows 10 needing a reboot to install updates.

Am I worried needlessly? Does Windows 10 know enough not to interrupt a full-screen Powerpoint presentation? Is there a mode to disable automatic updates? Or with its new update protocol I am at risk of an embarrassing update moment at my next series of live presentations?

TIA

BJ

there is a presentation setting to prevent anything from happening when in a presentation mode

where you ask - off the top of my head - have to go looking for it again..

Thanks for the quick reply. I looked for a 'presentation mode' myself but could not locate it, also am unsure if that means it'll stop updates from installing as well as downloading (I'd like to prevent both).

Select "notify to schedule restart" instead of "automatic" in Windows update, advanced settings.

But wouldn't this notification you mention pop up over the Powerpoint which is precisely what I'm afraid of?

In the end, I don't want to have anything pop-up or install or notify me during a public meeting where I'm running my notebook.

Update on this front: I just did a Windows 10 Search (as well as a Control Panel Search) for 'presentation' and 'presentation mode' and nothing came up.

Well if I was you I'd check Windows update before giving the presentation.

Perhaps this is a better solution for you though (assuming you have the Pro version)
Windows Update Automatic Updates - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 - Windows 10 blog

Settings > System > Notifications & actions > Notifications > Hide notifications while presenting.

Settings, System, notifications and actions - Hide notifications while presenting.....

alpha beat me by a minute. Has nothing to do with Win Update.

lol, that happens to me quit often. You click post and when the page refreshes you see somebody just beat you to it.
