Don't know what you call the screen that shows up when you do a left click on the Windows icon on the main screen and a large box opens up with a bunch of little boxes of apps/programs that I have set up and use for quick access.
Anyway, the programs and the names are there that open the programs but the icons that used to be there associated with the programs are all gone.
How can I get them back?
thanks
Try this: Icon Cache - Rebuild in Windows 10
That one is called Start Menu.
Is this a recent problem ?
If yes, do a system restore.
Pick a date when you had all the icons present at Start Menu as your restore point.
System Restore Windows 10
this is a new problem after updting several items. I don't want to do a restore as it may create more probs than i have now.
did that but that did not work
Well, how about a Repair Install, also known as In-place upgrade install.
It will allow you to keep your files, settings and apps.
Have a look at this tutorial and see if it is ok for you to try...................
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
I will check this out...thanks
Good luck.
Please post back the result.
A System Restore is a lot faster as a first option. I've used it many, many times to get back to a desired system state. In Search, type create restore point which brings you to System Properties/System Restore. If you want to go back further than suggested point, check box at bottom for select diff restore point that's older. It may seem stuck but just let it run, restore registry and restart computer.
