Recently windows started having a problem displaying thumbnails for JPGs. If I load a folder of images it shows them all for a moment, then swiftly changes loads of them to white blanks.
A bit more investigating and I realise it's only for image files over 10MB. I'm a photographer, so looking at images litterally all day, so it's quite an annoyance! Or course I use other software for sorting, organising, resizing etc, but plenty of times you just want to load a folder and see the images.

What program is the default for opening pictures (what opens when you double-click the JPG)?
You could try clearing and rebuilding the icon cache to see if it fixes the problem:
I tried clearing the cache. I found a manual method that didn't work, but then a freeware that seemed to clear it ( I saw the desktop icons rebuild.) Still didn't fix it.
I changed the default JPG program from ACDSee (My choice of image viewer) back to photos, but it didn't fix it either I'm afraid
Then try this:
In the search, type "Folder options" and press Enter.
Go to the "View" tab.
Check "Always Show icons, never thumbnails".
Click Apply button.
Uncheck "Always show icons, never thumbnails".
Click OK button.
Search for "adjust the appearance and performance" and click the first result.
Make sure "Show thumbnails instead of icons" is checked and click OK.
Thanks so much for the response. I got all excited then... but realised it hadn't fixed it. It's just files over 10MB. I'm trying to think anything I installed recently, so I can uninstall it. Perthaps I'll do a system restore to a point a week or two ago

Thanks, as always for the help everyone, but I tried clearing the thumbnail cache again, both methods, and the problem is still there I'm afraid.
I tried system, restore, but it's only showing me entries for the last week. Is there a way of accessing System restore points that may be hidden from the list? I'm sure there were loads of earlier points I've seen in the past
When the size of the restore points altogether reaches the maximum size allowed, then the oldest ones will be deleted to make space for the new ones to keep within that limit. System Restore doesn't hide system restore points, so unfortunately they're gone if you can find them.
