Successfully completed a clean reinstall with no problems, this time it picked up my Nvidia 310M graphics card (will update my other thread) and installed the latest driver for it.
Only one remaining issue and that is a driver for the JMB38X SD/MMC Host Controller. Have done a google search but can't find anything I can trust to be the appropriate Win 10 driver. One site called "Driver Scape" lists a driver, version no. 1.0.72.4 as Win 10 32bit & 64bit supported but it's release date is 31.07.2012!
I'm tempted to try it but as I don't know the site my head is saying be suspicious. Anybody know or have experience of Driver Scape? I guess the alternative is to just wait and see if a driver is eventually offered via Windows Update.
Any suggestions or advice welcome.

Thanks for this, tried it but it failed to install. Got the message that Windows couldn't find a driver despite me pointing it to the extracted folder. I guess I'll just have to give time and hope that a win 10 compatible one appears from somewhere.try this

I will upload you a driver that i was able to install successfully on one of my pc's sometime later when i pull that pc out.

And then follow the second entry in the list (for device ID 0x2382):
