Welcome to the forum.
1. The name of the computer you wish to connect to.
2. The user name and password you would use to log into that computer. For security reasons Remote Desktop requires that the computer has a password. This can be changed with a group policy but this is not recommend.
Note that the computer you are connecting to must be Windows 10 Pro or higher. Windows 10 Home does not support this feature.
Hi Mcgoo, welcome to the windowssh blog.
You need of course use the name or IP address of the remote host, the computer you are trying to connect to, and credentials of one of the user account on that remote host
See the tutorial: RDC - Connect Remotely to your Windows 10 PC - Windows 10 blog

Thanks i have read the link supplied.
so the intial box,i have typed in the name of the computer i wish to connect to,lets say its called.
laptop-pc
in the next box i typed in
laptop-pc
and the password for this computer
I still get the credentials used are incorrect?
i have allowed remote access on both computers and even altered the group policy, but it still wont work have also checked the windows firewall
If the computer name is Laptop-PC and you have a user account on that computer called Mcgoo, you would enter Laptop-PC as the computer name and Mcgoo as username, using the Mcgoo's password on that computer.
i have tried that and still cant connect:
The pc i want to conect to is say-laptop-pc
the user name on that pc is say-laptop-pc
and the password lets say for laptop-pc = crazy
so i have typed in the first box(computer name)- laptop-pc
the second box(user name) laptop-pc
password box.crazy.
still get error
- What is the operating system of that remote computer? Exact version and edition please, for instance Windows 7 Ultimate or Windows 8.1 Pro.
- Is the remote computer on the same network than the client, the computer you are connecting from? For instance, are both computers on your home network?
- Are the incoming remote connections enabled on the remote computer?
both computers are windows 10.(the free up grade,so not sure which version)
remote access is enabled on both computers,
they are connected via a home network.
ps after checking, they are both windows 10 pro,
managed to resolve the issue.
I got the laptop from a friend and changed the laptop name to mylaptop, but the user name was still showing as my friends name.
So
First box--i entered the laptops ip address
second box -friends user name
then the password i had set up.
bingo im in.
