16 bit programs on 32 bit windows 10...

hi... i installed vdm on my 32 bit windows 10
to run 16 bit windows programs
have all the dlls in the windows system folder
rebooted... and the programs still won't run...
says something is missing...

any ideas why?

Windows 10 cannot run older 16 bit programs. You could use XP in a virtual machine.

interesting... cause when i went to run one
windows update popped up and said
i needed to install ntvdm so i did
and it said it was ok...

they ran ok on windows 7...

i have windows 3.1 installed on dosbox
maybe i'll use that...

64 bit versions of Windows can't run 16-bit applications, but 32 bit versions should run them, as far as I knew.

I may be wrong, however, I thought I read scuttlebutt indicating hardware also plays a role, regardless of software.

That's my understanding also, unless something has changed? You may have to try running them in compatibility mode though?

That's my understanding also...?
when i run one i get a message saying a component is missing
like it does with a dll file...but i have all of them...

System or System32, and does it matter?

i always put them in the system folder
that's where they are...

as soon as i copied them to the system 32 folder
they worked... that did it... thanks...

Just a lucky guess on my part, glad it solved the problem though.
