Edge can't view anything on internet, IE still can.

A strange thing just started happening on my PC.

All of a sudden Edge will not access any web page or address. Even my router at 192.168.1.1. I can use Edge to open documents, though.

Whereas Internet Explorer works fine.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, as per the tutorial on this site.

On my Windows tablet, Edge is still working.

How can I fix this, please??

Just a suggestion :

Do a system restore. Pick a date when youhad no issue with Edge as your restore point.
System Restore Windows 10

I am leaning towards 'reset this PC' as a solution to things like this.

sfc /scannow found some corrupt files but couldn't fix them.

RE : Reset
1.Reset option will allow you to keep you personal files only.
You will have to reinstall all the 3rd party programs you had.
2. There were reports that Reset actually messed up the system. I would think twice before doing it.
3. I would run the Repair Install instead.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

RE: sfc /scannow found some corrupt files but couldn't fix them
Use this method:
In the same Command Prompt (Admin) window, copy and paste this command...........

dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

> press Enter.
Again it will take some time.
When finished, it will give you a report.

If you receive an error message " Source files could not be found", post back.
It can be fixed.

Why don't you try a system restore first ?
It won't hurt doing it.
If it does not help, then use the method I gave you in post #4.

Ah! I tried the DISM command and that is exactly the message I got. If that can be fixed without doing a Repair Install, I'd be happy...

(As for System Restore, I have that turned off)

WHY did you turn off system restore ?
It is a very helpful tool to fix many problems.

As to "Source files could not be found".......................

***** Your profile says "8.1". I would assume you have since upgraded to Windows 10. If you are still on Win 8.1, disregard what is posted below. It will not be applicable to you.*****

Use the Tech Bench link below and download your version of Win 10 ISO file.

Once you have the iso downloaded, right click at the ISO > click Mount> leave it there.
Then open the elevated command prompt and copy and paste this................

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /wim:H:sourcesinstall.wim:1 /limitaccess

Note :H is the drive where the iso is mounted. Change it if your driver letter is different.

When it is completed, you should get the report that the operation is successful.
Now run the sfc /scannow again. It should be ok this time.

Many thanks! I'll try this when I get home.

EDIT:
I downloaded the iso image for Windows 10 and used the DISM command as instructed.

It started, but it failed at 20% with 'error 1728' - 'The remote procedure call failed'.

Update:

I've now done an 'in-place upgrade' install of Windows 10, opting to keep my files and settings. Using the iso I downloaded from Techbench.

However, after that, Edge didn't work.

sfc /scannow reported that it found corrupt files (!) and was able to repair them... but after this, Edge still wasn't working.

EDIT:
I did a complete fresh install of Windows 10, including formatting the drive.
At last, Microsoft Edge is working again.
