Username or password incorrect

I've previously run netplwiz from the command prompt to disable the sign in process in Windows 10.

Which worked fine in build 10049 but in 10158 & 10166 I now get this error message

I don't understand how this message can appear as no password has been entered at this stage.
Pressing OK, or waiting 2 minutes results in this screen

Entering the PIN or password from the sign-in option continues the login process.
Apart from starting again from scratch, any ideas on how to correct this.

I'm not sure why it does that but I could never get around it so I just leave the box checked.
I think by unchecking the box it's trying to initiate another user account or that 'built-in' one.

When you uncheck that box you are then prompted to enter the password for the user account that is highlighted. If you entered the wrong password I think you'll end up where your at now. Maybe try redoing it. If you don't use any password, set one for that account, and then try again. If your auto logging on anyway having a password set is no big deal.

Just re-checked the box & it's OK.

Will also try alphanumeric's suggestion.

WARNING: Go to the site attachments manager and delete the second screen shot-- it shows your Email address-- you could get your identity stole- you could start receiving tons & tons of spam-- need I go on?

I had my Windows 7 PC set to auto logon. I don't remember having to redo it when I upgraded to Windows 10. I remember switching from a local account to a Microsoft Account, both used the same password. Even if I did redo it, its worked on every build after that right up to 10166.

No - it doesn't.

I edited the screen to remove my email address for that exact reason, but I've re-edited it just in case I was take out that domain name at some later time.

Hi there

How do you edit the screen -- The Logon screen (or Lock screen if you've temporarily left via Lock the machine) shows email address when you use an Ms account - please specify how you can edit this screen as it's a HUGE security hole.

Removing password isn't a good idea either if your machine is say in a place with a load of other users --your Lock screen should need a password to re-logon.

@ MICROSOFT

There's no reason to have to use the SAME password to unlock the screen as the logon one so you could easily change the security to allow a different password to unlock the machine.

Also PLEASE allow the email address to be HIDDEN on lock screen for users with Ms accounts when user signs out or simply locks the screen.

Ok I usually use blur or pixalate. But Thinking I saw your email drove me to create a thread in Site Stuff on how to delete an attachment, because when using a Windows account there are more places in Win10 that show the Email address, and I have made that failure already, and a few of the more advanced members too. So for the billion new people to come, I thought it would be a good idea, so all we have to do is link.

By the way look carefully at the screenshot for netplwiz it shows up twice.

Hi there

ANYBODY but particularly to the OP --HOW DO YOU EDIT THE LOCK SCREEN TO GET RID OF EMAIL ADDRESS --PLEASE !!!!.

Fine when using a LOCAL account but an Ms account shows email address.

OK you can create a Fake email address when creating an Ms account --but that's NOT A PROPER SOLUTION.

Cheers
