Gotcha

I'm a winNDUNCE!

Installed 10...it auto activated.

Added "Program Features" using my Media Center Product ID.

It accepted it and restarted twice and I was golden. Or so I thought.
Bang bang, I "lost" activation.

Clicked to activate and was taken to that phone screen with 9 boxes of 8 numbers.
I bypassed the auto phone activation thinking that I had a 'special case' scenario.
Boy was that a mistake! Talked and was transferred to 7 different humans without anyone able
to resolve my activation snafu. The 8th on hung up on me.
So I call the robo number again and let the 'android' man take my numbers and then had
him go about relaying the Group A Group B ....Group H numbers and then I clicked "Activate ".
Son of a gun it WORKED. Back to 'personalizing' windows 10 build. Yeah!
Media Center kind of weirded out my System specs, and though it SAYS I have 8.1 Pro with
Media Center, it is quick obvious that is a misnomer.

Just wondering aloud.
A big THANKS for opening shop with windowssh blog to all admins involved in its creation!

You got lucky!
But now you better check your version in the registry: HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion
if it doesn't read 9879 under CurrentBuild, you may not get important updates and new builds 'flight' may be disabled.

You got lucky! ;)
Well 'windunce' is not a misnomer :(
Here's my shots and I do have the 'wrong?' build number,
yet it seems I got some new updates today.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping for the best!
Thanks for your help and knowledge.

You might be alright then!

You might be alright then!
Heading to Holland.
Putting on my clogs and gonna knock on wood! Wheeew!
Thanks

LOL...

... yes I reported in the supported keys thread that all windows 8 and 8.1 keys work - not sure how upgrading will work though (current Pro key does not work with the latest 9888 leak) - suggest you backup the SPP folder., in case you experience activation problems upgrading.
Restoring that folder should retain activation on that machine and save you a phone call, theoretically, anyway.

Something got lost in the translation.
Upgrading to what? Consumers Preview? RTM? Retail version of 10?
Are those the upgrades I might have issues with activation retention?

And I searched the world over and couldn't find an SPP folder anywhere.
So I didn't clone it elsewhere.

But yea, found your threads. Very informative.
I had the above problem and just rushed to see if windowssh blog even existed.
When I saw it did, I just rushed out my post before reading a single thread.
There is a lot of info out already. Great news!

Thanks
Windunce.

What I meant to say was that there is no Windows 10 with Media Centre SKU built into the current builds (not yet anyway) and that upgrading may pose problems for that reason.

The SPP folder can be found under the System32 folder.

You down with SPP (Yeah you know me)

Found it and will use it if needed. Iffen it don't work, I'll resign myself to watching DVD's in the
living room instead of the computer room. 70" beats 23" anyway...ha ha

Again...Thanks
Windunce

Yea this popped up some time back,

Gotcha
