Worked!!

So I did the Windows 10 upgrade (WOOHOO!) Everything went smoothly during the install. As I was checking out the start menu I clicked on the little Settings cog in the lower left. All that happens when I do this is a super quick flash of what I assume is the settings window. Its there and then its gone. I also tried right clicking on my name and picture and the top and hitting change account settings. Same thing happens. Anyone have any clue whats going on here?

Maybe related: Many of my programs wont set as default, such as chrome and a few games want me to allow permissions EVERY time I open them.

Please help! Thank you.

I'm having the exact same issue. It opens a blank "Settings" folder and automatically closes 2 seconds later. It has to be a bug. With all of the Fanfare that Microsoft was putting out about how it's Windows 10 is "the best operating system ever made" you wonder how this huge bug made it past beta testing. Did not one single person try to change their account settings? lol

I have the exact same problem. I cannot open the settings menu, every time I click on the settings it flashes open then closes.

Same issue, hope someone can help me fix it.

Thanks!! Worked and it was extremely simple!!

Did not fix mine. No search capabilities either. Also Cortana errors in Event Log.

System Restore was best option. A couple proggies to re-install but nothing major.

For those, like me, that could not use the posted solution. Try searching for and downloading the full/manual install for KB3081424 from Microsoft (about 150 MB). It fixed the issue for me.

Worked!!
