Monitor Turns off- Clean Installed 5 times! Still happening

I'm beyond frustrated with this issue.

I've been running windows 10 for quite some time when I had multiple crashes yesterday whilst gaming, culminating in a failed registry fix I attempted which locked me out of windows.

After reinstalling windows, I was presented with a new issue. I was able to boot and install my gpu driver but then after a restart I would be presented with a blank screen, my monitor would simply go into power saving mode.

The only way around this was to use my windows install usb to use cmd and boot into safe mode. From there I am able to uninstall the nvidia drivers for my 980 and I can get back in, although the card has no drivers running.

I have tried two different nvidia drivers thus far, that worked just fine for me previously I might add, that end up presenting me with this exact same issue.

I'm currently downloading all the drivers for my hero vii board in the hopes that once they are installed I can install the gpu driver and this issue will be gone.

In the meantime, if someone happens to know the cause of this issue, or would like me to post any specific reports for you to enquire into, please let me know.

Help is always appreciated.

Thank you

Luke

Has your graphics card failed? Can you try the on-board graphics as a test?

Well I'm currently plugged in and using my 980, it just has no drivers installed right now.

I have just installed everything for my hero vii board. I'm going to restart now without having installed any drivers for the card. Hopefully back in a moment.

Ok so it did it again.

I'm going to have to go through the rigmarole of running cmd from the install usb to get to safe mode and uninstalling the card...

Is w10 automatically installing a driver for this card? Because if it is that's causing an issue too.

Yes W10 will automatically install the driver it has in its database for your 980 graphics card. It is not necessarily the most up to date one.

I'm not sure what connection you are using but do you have any other cables or connection types that you can try such as HDMI or display port?

I'm plugged in with via hdmi which is the only connection I have.

I'm going to try another driver. Will report back.

Issue persists. I will try another driver but at this point I don't know what to do. All these drivers can't be having the same issue, there must be another problem at work here.

As of now I am able to boot into windows using safe mode connected via hdmi to my graphics card, any installed driver right now results in this monitor turn off issue. The computer itself seems to be running in the background however.

I will be attempting another driver install tonight and then will continue attempting to resolve this issue tomorrow.

Thank you for your assistance so far.

Good luck! I'd be tempted to get a DVI connector and try it. Which monitor are you using?

Your power supply seems to have enough power but a poor power supply has been known to cause this type of issue by shutting down power to the GPU. Are all the PSU fans working well and no dust build up?

Good news.

I pulled apart my pc last night, reseated connections with my psu, pulled out the gpu and blew a load of dust of it, and put it all back together after having also installed a new gpu driver.

It now works! It boots and restarts just fine I'm so happy it wasn't a failing gpu. I'm not sure which of these things fixed the problem, I suspect reseating the psu connections however, but it is now fixed regardless.

Thank you for you assistance with this matter philc43, I appreciate it
