How do I make WMP default application for music CDs?

I posted here just over a week ago because I was trying to install WMP on my PC; thanks to you guys I disovered that it was already installed, even though there was no icon on the desktop, start menu or application bar.

Anyway, I'm now trying to set it as the default application for opening music CDs. The problem is that it is not listed in the default programs, and I cannot seem to get it included on the list. I know how to associate programs with different file types, but that's not really what I want; I'd like WMP to launch automatically when I insert a CD.

All help greatly appreciated

Use the Auto Play option.

Right click at Start button > Control Panel > top right, click View by : select either small or large > select Auto Play > scroll down to CDs heading > at Audio CD, click the pointer and select Play audio CD (Windows media Player) > click Save when done.

*** When you are at Auto Play, check out other options and see if you can use one of them.

Many thanks, davidhk, but WMP is not listed there either

Are you sure you have looked at the right place ?

................... I disovered that it was already installed, even though there was no icon on the desktop, start menu or application bar.

Go to Start button > All apps > scroll down to alphabet W > open it > Windows Media Player should be listed there.
If yes. right click at it > click More > click Pin to Taskbar.

Yes, I was looking in the right place.
Last week, when I discovered that WMP was actually installed, I did manage to get it onto the Start Menu, and from there create a link to the task bar. Just looking now, I thought that it had disappeared from the Start Menu, but I found it under applications!!
It's almost as if my PC refused to acknowledge the presence of WMP; even if I create links to launch the program, it won't be included in the default programs--very strange, since it is after all preinstalled Microsoft software.

The issue is not Windows. It's your computer.

I have Windows media player as a selection as default program.

Yes, I realise that, hence my posting on this forum. Something must have happened when I upgraded from Windows 7 Home Premium. I was hoping that someone could help me (don't know how!) get WMP back into the list of default programs.

Would you care to do a Repair Install ?
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Repair Install will allow you to keep your files, settings and apps.
No product key is required.
Activation is automatic.

Thank you for that, davidhk, much appreciated. I'll run the repair install later this evening (I'm working at the moment and need to use my PC). I'll get back to you tomorrow with the results!
