The Windows 8 scrap heap: 10 features that didn't make it to Windows 10 | ZDNetWindows 8 was filled with bold ideas, designed to move Windows forward in one giant leap. Three years later, as Windows 10 nears its release date, many of those innovative ideas are gone. Here's a look at what's been tossed away, and why.
- The Start screeen
- The Charms menu
- The two-headed Internet Explorer
- Corner-based navigation
- The People hub
- Windows Media Center
- Windows RT
- Full-screen Metro apps
- From SkyDrive to OneDrive
- Share contracts
Two headed Internet explorer lol
Instead they gave it multiple personalities
Those are not a big loss - except for the Start screen which I toggle. The Charms and corners I already disabled in 8.1. The other IE I kind of like. It has a few nifty functions. For the rest of the list I can care less.
There are a few other losses - e.g. the 'Check for updates' has disappeared from the Control Panel. The Modern UI does not support High Contrast Themes. That would be a showstopper for me if they don't fix it.
I am definitely glad to see the stooped thing gone! I hated the one that showed up on my start screen (hated that too).
You're suggesting that Modern apps had high contrast in Windows 8 and it's lost in Windows 10?
Not modern apps but the modern UI that you enter thru settings. Picture 1 shows how e.g. the update screen looks in W8.1 and Picture 2 shows the same in W10.
Well, no way to bring up the start screen. That's .. well a shame but it's not critical for my liking of Win10.

You can toggle the start screen. That's what I do.
I have that set up already and I hope that Shawn can make that work with the RTM.

Rumors are that they will keep the start screen option. But it is only a rumor..
