MoreWindows 10 comes with the same desktop design as Windows 7 and Windows 8, obviously with small tweaks here and there, but users expect Microsoft to implement many more changes in order to improve this side of the operating system.
For instance, one change that some people want is the possibility of switching to a dark theme for Windows 10, which would make the operating system altogether a bit easier to use for designers and developers who need to spend several hours working on the computer.
And since this is a feedback request, it has already been posted on the Windows UserVoice channel, and up until now, it has received nearly 900 votes, which means that it has most likely already caught Microsoft's attention.Why is this needed?
Users who posted on UserVoice explain that a dark theme would significantly reduce visual stress, and there's no doubt that for designers and software developers this is indeed really important.
Some claim that, because of the default Windows theme, they spend a lot of time setting up third-party themes on their computers, which not only that requires additional tweaking but also changes the default configuration of the operating system.
Here's what the original poster said on UserVoice:
“Include Dark Theme for the desktop. As developer and designer, dark theme is a ‘must have’ in order to reduce the visual stress. For example Visual Studio 2013 have dark theme, Adobe Photoshop and Autodesk 3dsmax is already build-in dark.”
Others, however, compare Windows 10 with Mac OS X and claim that Apple's Retina display feature makes its platform a lot easier to use for specific user categories.
“Add fresh and Aero based Themes. Better font render, as well as High DPI support like mac. most of designers support Mac OS X for retina display feature. Windows is left behind in this point,” one user said.
Great idea if it's implemented properly and works properly!
Once in a while I'll switch to 'Night Mode' in Maxthon Browser just for some 'eyeball relief', but, it makes things 'laggy' and some elements don't render properly, but that's just in the browser, of course.

The way I see it is it is a dark theme all the way. . .all the time. . .
Wouldn't a gray theme be better? Just my opinion. A lot of people have eye issues that includes me.

I added one to Firefox ages ago and it was pretty lame for rendering various elements in web pages.
The Night mode in Maxthon is the best I've seen.
My primary OS is OS X. . .been using a Mac as my primary computer for almost thirty years now, so gray is not on the top of my list for OS GUI colors, and white gives me a headache. The dark themes seem to be what is best for me at the present time. . .Wouldn't a gray theme be better? Just my opinion. A lot of people have eye issues that includes me.

Just tried it again, to see. Things seem to 'flash' when my screen is dark and my text is light...

I have a high contrast theme for Night Mode, where it's all black background and red accenting, it looks quite nice and visually less straining at night.
The whole white background is so long in the tooth now, it's been done for decades. Black backgrounds, I think on certain screen technologies, actually benefits as they run slightly cooler as they use a smidge less power. This is why Windows Phone by default has a black background as some power efficiency studies were done by Microsoft some time ago that showed power consumption in apps with a dark theme and a bright theme. Obviously the dark theme used less power.
With the newer metro UI design they're going for and what has been leaked, it seems like they're going for dark themed apps but still have a white as sunlight File Explorer...
Always a dark theme whenever possible. Always.
Microsoft Visual Studio 2013, has the best dark theme that I absolutely love! IMO.
I hope they will offer the same one for Windows 10, like they do the dark theme for the new upcoming MS Office 16.
