Hi,
After updating to Windows 10 from Win 7 Ultimate I can no longer do anything that requires admin privileges.
It appears as though something is wrong with UAC on my profile.
Anyone else have this issue?
Yup, And I can't lower UAC Settings as the same error occurs... Loving Windows 10!
I managed to disable UAC by using the space key to click on the "OK" button after lowering the UAC, and spamming mouse clicks over the popup that shows for milliseconds.
Hey there, glad you got the issue fixed, but in case the OP's method doesn't work for others, go to your "Sound" settings by searching in the search bar, navigate to the "Sounds" tab on the settings popup, and set your sound scheme to "No sounds."
Afterwards, you should be able to run administrator programs or anything that requires being an admin.
Change your UAC to the lowest security, and set your sound scheme back to what you want, and you should be able to continue to have a sound scheme while being able to run programs as an admin at the trade of UAC being disabled.
Hopefully MS sees this issue.
Wow, thank you!! This worked. Hopefully they fix this soon.... it was in beta for months.. and yet something this large gets through.
I've installed and uninstalled Win 10 twice now, I get the file system error every time.
I spent an hour and a half on hold trying to get tech support from Windows to no avail. I eventually lost patience and hung up.
Really sucky, cuz 10 looks like it would be such an improvement over 7.
Great to see it worked for someone! Interestingly enough, my Surface Pro 3 upgraded from 8.1 to 10 with no issues whatsoever, my custom desktop on the other hand started with driver issues (Primarily Ethernet not working, displayed "Unidentified Connection, No Internet") which was awful finding a fix as there seems to be no tutorials for Ethernet, and of course the "-10737" error. Even the actual installation process was a hassle.
Here's another important piece of info though;
For me, creating or logging onto a different account on the PC also solved the issue without changing the UAC or sound schemes.
I feel the pain, installed and uninstalled twice as well, this is my third attempt and finally things are looking a little bright for me. Try creating a new account or logging into a new one on your computer if the sound scheme method didn't work.
It's definitely a UAC issue from migration. I wasn't able to install any program updates after upgrading from Win7 Pro x64 but used this technique to disable the UAC and after getting the timing just right, clicking yes on the pop up that appears after initially applying the UAC settings, closed the window so the settings were saved and now all the programs updating fine. Issue still stands though that I've had to disable UAC which really isn't much of a fix...
