No video after W10 install.

Hello,
After upgrading to W10 from W8.1 (which went trouble free) when my laptop is powered completely off and I turn on the laptop, after the Acer splash screen the video stops working. Windows continues to load just no video.
IF I go into the bios during startup and just exit out of it, W10 starts normanally, with video. It will also reboot with no problem, no video loss, only when the laptop is powered completely off.

I tried going to the Acer web site and downloading their W10 drivers, made no difference.
I installed the latest bios.

Acer E5-511P
1.8 mhz Celeron
8 gig ram
125 gig intel SSD

  • When you say 'video' do you mean the Windows boot screen (when you get the 5 balls going round in a circle)?
  • So are you saying you get the Acer splash screen then nothing else...none of the Windows booting screens show?
  • And this only happens when you use the 'Shutdown' option to power down?
  • And Windows loads fine when you use the 'Restart' button, 'Sleep' or 'Hibernate' option?
  • And Windows also loads fine when you boot directly from the bios?

If the above is all correct, then I suggest you look within your Power Option settings in the first instance.

Edit: Oh...I almost forgot...Welcome to the forum!

Yes to all of the above and I will check Power Options...

Great forum

Yeah it definitely looks like something is not configured right in your power options. Specifically with the options set for what happens when you hit the shut down button

What do you have or had set in power options ? Where you using sleep or hibernate ? Chances this can be a hardware issue, low power, HDD, Video Adapter, inside connections and monitor. Updated Video Adapter drivers ?

@Last2Try

You may already have solved this. But just in case.

I've just had a thought....about 'fast startup'....please could you temporarily disable this function. It might possibly stop the system from being able to boot properly if your boot data is corrupted. The setting is in your Power Options where you choose what the power buttons do.

How to Turn On or Off Fast Startup in Windows 10

Please advise if there is any change in booting up after using your 'shut down' button.

Thank You WhyMe disabling fast start up solved the problem..
Thank you

Just so you know, disabling 'fast startup' also disables the hibernate function on your laptop. If you don't use hibernate then that is cool and it can be left disabled. (That was why I said to only temporarily disable it earlier, just in case you need hibernate)

Although resolved, it is possible there is corruption of boot data on your device.

No I don't use hibernation so that's not a problem.

If there iscorruption of the boot data how do I fix it?

If there iscorruption of the boot data how do I fix it?
The thing is, I don't know too much about Windows as my knowledge is really in hardware. I do know the changes I would make to fix the problem if I was to do it on my own system. But I'm not comfortable asking others to do the same in case it fouls things up for them. The fix would be making changes to your boot records or to create a new one. It could make your system unusable if it goes wrong.

So...I think it is best if we...I mean you...wait for someone else to drop by...as they will have knowledge to give the info so that things are done precisely...or maybe start a new thread...

Sorry man...just wouldn't be right to get you to do things that I can't guarantee are correct...
