Bad Nvidia Driver

Even with Pro and driver installs disabled, still learning about that, let Win 10 install driver. Got notified of a new driver from Nvidia. Would not install because it could not find my video card. Finally got it back with an old driver still on the machine. Too late to check it all out.
What would happen to someone that didn't know anything ? Send the repair bill to Microsoft ?

I noticed something similar. Perhaps MS will issue a fix in the near future. Though I can't say anything as drastic as a repair would be required, just another driver.

What I usually do is download the latest driver from Nvidia's website, then run DDU () in safe mode to clear out the old driver, reboot, then install the new driver. That tends to lead to much less issues than a Windows Update GPU driver download and upgrade, at least for me.

I just need the video driver, so usually kill the junk programs. Although the video driver itself doesn't need updating very often.
Guess I will get everything and hope for the best in the future. This is the first time "two" updates were available. There is also an option to do a clean install with the Nvidia download.
I still wonder how many, Windows 10 driver updates, kill a good working computer.
The main thing is, I have driver updates disabled and it still was shown as auto update. What would happen if all drivers were read only ????!!!!

The driver is effectively useless without the software to control it, it's the difference between a smooth experience and a crashing program, it's always worth checking out the release notes as well.

A computer does not need anything but the drivers. Nvidia puts extra programs in. You do not need a program to check for updates or something for sound, for instance.

How are you killing driver updates? Only one I have found that works is via local policy but you also have to disable windows update auto checking. Nothing can stop windows update from driver installing if there is no driver installed so killing wu auto checking is a must while you restart between removing and installing the new driver

Disable driver update checking:
local group policy editor/computer configuration/administrative templates/system/internet communication manager/internet communication settings/turn off windows update driver searching

Disable windows update checking:
policy editor/Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update

What is your Video Card?

Anyway the latest Nvidia Driver 358.50 is not bad and I always use :

Gpedit msc > Computer Config > Admin Templates > System > Device Installation > Prevent Installation Not Described by Other Policy Settings. Someone in a newsgroup posted this, did a Google search and it looked promissing

I only try one at a time
