second monitor no longer conencts

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and now my computer only detects one display rather than two. I have a Dell desktop computer and two Dell monitors. Using Windows 7 both monitors were being detected/used. Can anyone tell me how to correct. (I'm not very technically experienced, but can follow basic instructions.)

The second display shows a black screen with the message "Cannot Display This Video Mode".

right click on desktop for "display settings" - pick the monitor that shows up that message -> click it to activate -> switch correct video mode for it. its prolly too high resolution issue.

also WIN+P -combination gives you chance to use "extended desktop" which you should use to configure the resolutions

When I go to "display settings", there is only one monitor shown. If I click "Detect", it says "Didn't detect another display".

When I do WIN +P, I see message "Your PC can't project to another screen".

Did you try to reinstall proper GPU drivers ?

We need more info on your system. How r the monitors connected? Do you have an add on gpu? What driver is listed in divorce manager. As Count Mike asked, do you have the correct driver loaded? Have u tried to disconnect the second monitor and let Windows redetect it?

The issue has been resolved by concluding that my Dell Computer Optiplex 745C is too old (several years) and therefore there is not available a GPU driver that is available for Windows 10. The solution offered by a more computer literate friend, was to revert back to Windows 7. I have done that and now can use both monitors.

Thanks for trying to help.

See my later post. Couldn't find proper GPU driver for my older Dell computer. Had to revert back to Windows 7.

I have been using my Lenovo with a dual monitor for almost two years. I have it connected through a Plugable USB 3.0 docking station. I recently bought a small portable docking station and used it with a different second monitor and the new portable docking for the past couple of weeks at my daughter's house. I came back home and plugged my laptop into the 'permanent' Plugable USB 3.0 and now the second monitor is no longer recognized.

I tried connecting directly to the laptop with a mini-hdmi converter cable - nothing. I tried rolling back the drivers - nothing. I updated the drivers again - nothing. I took the resolution down to 48, even though it has been working fine with 60 - nothing - so I changed it back.
