Dark explorer backgrounds. Is this possible ? If so how.

I'd like to be able to set the following up but can't seem to just get all the requirements to come together.

1/ A dark (black) explorer background.
( I can get this by choosing a high contrast theme)

2/ To be able to use desktop themes and pictures as normal.
(that seems OK)

Those are really the only two things I want to change and by using high contrast themes I can.

3/ Problem... IE and pages displayed are black background. Is it possible to have 1 and 2 above but IE still display as normal. Also the start menu and tiles are black. Is it possible to retain or customise that separately.

Explorer I could get as a I want, but IE, urhhh

Thanks in advance

You should be able to set a new image as desktop background, but not change the theme.
In the browser you could override the system colors. Takes a little playin around to get it just right.

Yes I can set a new desktop image and a slideshow all as normal with the high contrast themes.

How would I override the browser settings though. I couldn't find an obvious way to do that.

I suppose it's kind of difficult as you would effectively be changing the way the page looks, for blog and the such, you could change to a dark theme, but websites like newspapers or feeds would be difficult as they have their advertisements and the such, is it the same for other browsers?

I don't know if other browsers would be affected. I've always used IE though, have kind of grown and got to like it.

I've asked over on the Microsoft blog over this and it appears that what I want isn't do-able. The view changes for all explorer windows, IE included.

At least I know now.

Hi Mooly, this is Windows explorer (Win 7) using a full theme and I will be applying a full theme to Win 10 final release

That looks good Does it affect IE though, or does that display as normal ?

IE its self yes but web pages no as there outside the system, but the internal system yes

Hmmm... thanks. I couldn't seem to get anything like that to work in W10. Bing homepage was just a black hole, no picture displayed at all. First picture in this thread shows how this forum looked for me.

I might come back to this problem...

Thanks
