Kill the letters! (Start menu apps list.)

One final hack/adjustment and I will be at peace.
So far no-one has come up with a way to remove the stupid letters from the start menu apps list... have they?

Please do NOT suggest third part apps.
I value the right click menu features on the Start button and all the third party Start Menu apps screw with this.
I don't want another program, I just want the stupid clumsy letters gone!

Any creative geniuses out there?
I'm not the only one who wants this, surely!

And it doesn't even work...
Is the name of the program used to determine where the app goes or the name of the company that makes the program.. or even whether it's free or not!
(See image F for Free!)
Useless and pathetic Microsoft!

All apps in Start menu - Open and Use in Windows 10

There is no way to remove the letters.
They are a carry over from 8.
The Windows 10 menu is an updated desktop version of the metro UI in 8.

It is designed to reduce or eliminate scrolling.
Clicking a letter takes one to an install title.
It is up to the developer to generate a proper name.
The menu can only work with what it is given.

Looking at that Windows 10 image above I can guess that it's a brand new installation, probably only a few hours old.

Here are the programs this user has loaded so far...

Cortana
One Drive
Everything Windows!
The usual stuff Microsoft loads on to a computer with every installation.

I would love a quick setting/hack to remove those inefficient letters/numbers from the "All apps" start menu.

Gone are the days of neatly pruned and efficient "All Programs" menus. You could create folders and categorize everything into those folders. You could get EVERYTHING to fit on one screen/page.

Would if you don't remember the letter of what you're looking for starts with, or would if you just want a quick view of everything you have?? A lot of people are 'visual' beings, and looking at something goes a long way than trying to spell something you don't remember. Those indexes are a step backward in the start menu efficiency.

I suppose you could create a whole new sub-directory inside the Start MenuPrograms folder, then move everything inside that folder. That way you'd have just one index, like a 'A' or 'Z', or whatever you call it. Haven't tried it myself, it's just theory.

Perhaps... you can rename massively all shortcuts in start menu/programs:
Google chrome -> 0 Google Chrome
Edge -> 0 Edge
Notepad -> 0 Notepad
etc

Yep, that's a good idea.

Just use the invisible character instead of numbers. Open charmap and under "Go to Unicode" type "200B". Copy that character and paste it to each name.
