Staying with the built-in protection : ok or crazy?

Hello, until now i use AntiVir, but i'm wondering if the actul stock protection of 10 is not enough..?

It's good enough provided:
  1. you watch where you're surfing
  2. Don't open strange emails
  3. Don't click on any suspicious popup from browser whether to answer yes or no (just kill it from the task manager)
  4. Turn off autorun.
  5. Once in a while, scan your drive on demand with free Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
  6. Create a backup image of your Windows OS, just in case
Use: Macrium Reflect Free or AOMEI Backupper so you can restore Windows in no time when needed. IMHO, this is the only valid source of protection.

NOTE:The above does apply whether you have Anti Virus installed or not.

Personally, I think all Anti Virus software are junks. Taken up too much system resource, don't do any good if the definition database is out of date. Some may cause BSOD.

Turn off autorun? But 10 ask you before starting any.. Anyways I use Acronis True Image for long But I should backup more often!

Is autorun really that evil, and if so, how do I turn autorun off?

use anti malware byte as well as defender. common sense help also
haven't use any 3rd party AV in years, waste of money if you buy it.
every now an then I check with an online scanner just to see I'm not being silly and letting stuff on to the pc, never anything.
we are talking 10+ years I have been doing this and never anything

Ever since Win8/8.1 I have stopped using 3rd party AV.
That's about 2 years ago.
Since then, all I am using is the built-in Windows Defender as my Real Time Protection and Malwarebytes (free edition) as my On-demand protection.
With command sense and observing the "dos" and "don'ts" of internet surfing, I have no security or infection issues.
For that, I don't mind being called crazy.

I went exactly the same way since many years and never had a problem. However, I do one additional thing. For opening unfamiliar webpages I use a Linux virtual machine. And unknown mail I never open.

In the beginning MSE, or now Defender, was very good, but nowadays I would not use this as my main protection. I would choose Avast or Avira free in combination with Malwarebytes. But the best protection is you!

I am using comodo internet security and have not had any issues

Ditto, but, I also run SuperantiSpywareon demand- on occasion. I also will run an online scan here and there, just to see if anything was missed by Defender. Thus far, not too much.
