Windows Defender needs to scan your computer - non-stop notification.

Does anybody know how to stop this damn notification from popping up every five minutes? I've tried everything. I've let it scan my computer (both quick-scan and full-scan), but within five minutes the notification pops back up again. I've looked online and found that it can be down to a certain setting in CCleaner, I use CCleaner but the option that all the solutions say to untick isn't present in the latest versions.

I'm running Windows 10 64bit.

Why was this moved? It has absolutely nothing to do with AV, Firewalls or System security at all? It has to do with how the Windows 10 notifications work.

Move it back please.

Hopefully you got CCleaner from the Piriform site & not a download host site such as Cnet, which is notorious for adding unwanted PUP's to their installers.

In the main window, clicking on the applications tab, down towards the bottom you should see Windows & Utilities. Uncheck anything to do with Defender. If the selections still don't show, then I suggest you uninstall the program & reinstall it.

Any questions related to Defender functions/problems end up in this thread since it is an AntiVirus, so the mods were correct in moving your post to this area.

I am using Ccleaner 5.15, which is currently the latest version, and the Windows Defender item is there.

Cleaner/Applications/Utilities/Windows Defender

If it's checked then every time you run Ccleaner it deletes the log which Windows Defender uses to keep track of when it last scanned the system.

Apparently other people are having this problem also. Could be a MS problem.

CCleaner is a great utility.

But I learned the hard way a long time ago that, with each new version, one needs to check the default settings before running it.
There are certain programs/applications I don't let it touch: Firefox, Thunderbird, Mailwasher Pro, etc.

This sounds like one of those cases.

P.S. (This is separate from the issue of using the reg cleaner -- I won't "go there", as doing so invokes "passionate" replies on both sides of that debate.)

Yep, I've seen other people reporting this now.

Apparently some people have been seeing the Defender logs checked. If CCleaner released a new ver, maybe the previous settings didn't migrate. Still checking things out....people having this prob have unchecked Defender & now we'll see if this fixes the problem.

People are reporting that unchecking the defender box in CCleaner eliminates the non stop asking for scans.

Quatermass, suggest you uninstall the version of CCleaner you have now, go to the Piriform site & get another copy from there, then re-install.

I can confirm unchecking Defender Logs in CCleaner stop's the nag for requesting a scan.
