Hi all,
When I start my PC, i.e. from an off state as opposed to wake from sleep or hibernation, the first image I always see is that of a beach-cave photo. I would like to change this. To be clear, I'm not referring to the lock-screen image; I'm referring to the pre-login image. Does anyone know how to change it? It's driving me crazy...
Thanks!
PT
Hello PT, and welcome to windowssh blog.
The screen that shows before the sign-in screen is the lock screen.
There's the lock screen for your account.
Lock Screen Background - Change in Windows 10
There's also a CTRL+ALT+DEL secure sign-in lock screen if enabled.
Thanks for the feedback. I think there may be some confusion (likely on my part). I suppose technically, I see three different backgrounds.
1) When I start my PC (from a power off state), it loads to a picture of a beach, as if shot from a cave.
2) When I click a key or a mouse button, the image changes - the background image is a dark blue, with a window through which light is emitted. Overlaid upon that image is the pic I chose for my account and a place to enter in my access pin.
3) If after I'm logged in, I choose to lock my PC, I see a random Windows Spotlight image.
I'm attempting to change #1. Is that possible? If so, what are the directions? Thanks!
1 and 3 would be your lock screen. What do you have set in Settings for you lock screen?
2 would be your sign-in screen.
Lock Screen Background - Change in Windows 10
My settings for Lock Screen, Background is "Windows Spotlight". Once I'm logged in, the lock screen (#3) works as I would expect it to - the image changes over time, per the Spotlight choice. #1 is always the beach photo.
Do you have another account on the PC that the Beach Cave could be set as its lock screen?
By default, Windows will show the lock screen of the last user at startup.
Not of which I'm aware. When I go to Control Panel --> User Accounts --> Manage Accounts, I only see one account - the account that I use, which is an "Administrator" account. Thoughts?
As a test, set to use a different picture for your lock screen, and restart the computer to see what is used afterwards.
Ok. That did the trick. Apparently I misunderstood the prior guidance. By changing the lock screen to a static picture, and changing that picture from the beach photo, then restarting, I was able to change the login screen. After changing the lock screen back to Spotlight, the static image I chose previously persisted as the new login screen. The beach photo is gone!
Thanks very much for the assistance!
Great news. I'm glad that was able to toggle it for you.
