Opting out of Insider programme

If someone pulls out of the insider programme what happens next, do you stay on the last Preview or do you go back to the latest stable build you installed or the latest stable build thats out at the moment and can you lose anything in the process.

I've been doing this for years and have never pulled out of these beta and insider programmes.

I'm basing this on the fact that the machines were setup and activated before entering the Insider programme.

Also if you used a hdd with a preview build from the start, but the computer is activated with a genuine build, what would happen to the hdd with the preview alone on it.

Every time I have pulled out of the Windows beta test program, I always clean install the latest retail version. I guess you don't have to do that, but I always do.

I would do the same. That way you know that you're on a stable build and will continue to get the retail updates.

Please someone can I just get a straight answer, I'd like to know what happens, not what you do. Sorry if that sounds a bit abrupt, but I'd like to just know what happens as I keep seeing conflicting things.
I've got 130 gb of games installed, so I'd rather not do a clean install if you can understand that.

If you pull out of the insider program, you will go back to the last consumer build (version 1511/build 10586) since you started from a qualifying OS.

Thanks, that is what I thought, but I keep getting different answers, I also assume that because I'm fully activated even if I have a drive which started out as a preview it would also go to the last consumer build, just guessing there.

Well that didnt work too well, I opted out but there was no verification, I restarted anyway and just ended up back on 14316. Looks like I'm going to have to wait for an ISO for 14328 or 14332.

That saying between a rock and a hard place certainly applies to me. I cant go forward, I cant go back and I cant go sideways, bummer.

Nope, like I said I can't get the confirmation after opting out, I think 14316 did something because the only updates Im getting are definition updates.
