Hi,
For some inexplicable reason my keyboard layout is different in windows 10 app than is in normal windonws 10 environment - even though on the taskbar it says it is the same... what could cause this?
thanks in advance if you have any advice solving this issue.
This is far fetched but the only logical explanation that comes to my mind: Are you sure the input language is changed, or could it be that the apps in question are some badly coded ones which only allow a specific, usually US English input with letters A to Z? I've seen quite a many of apps like that, almost as if the coders were thinking "We are Americans, we speak English! Nobody needs any other language" (no offence meant fellow American members, just a dramatized way to explain this).
My keyboard layout is always set either to Swedish or Finnish, with umlaut letters Åå, Ää and Öö. In several badly coded applications I have found out that I cannot enter these characters although my language bar is clearly showing I am using my default, correct language.
Your local time zone shown under the avatar is same than mine:
Forum default, time zone new members are showing if they do not manually change it is Eastern US time, EST or in the summertime EDT. It means that you have changed the default, which puts you in Central / Western Europe, Scandinavia or Northern / Central Africa. In these regions there are a lot of languages with other accented or normal letters than standard A to Z like in Europe Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, German, French, Spanish and so on, plus several African languages.
Continuing this theoretical thought, it might be that your input language is one using other letters than A to Z and that because you cannot use those letters in all apps although your language toolbar shows you have correct input language selected, it in my opinion only leaves this explanation: That happens to you when you are using apps only accepting letters A to Z.
If this is the case there's nothing you can do. It's because of the app is badly coded, not because of Windows.

Well, it happens with every single app, including the start menu search! Oddly enough, in Edge when I type into the address bar, the layout is US English, but when I type something on a webpage, like here, it is UK English... :/
OK, then I was wrong. The fact that you told language bar in Taskbar showing correct language although app uses another made me think the scenario I described as only possible reason for this.
Anyway, that's not your case. To go further, could you please tell which input languages you have installed? What is shown when you click the input language indicator in notification area, and which of them you would use by default on all apps? Screenshot shows mine as example:
Well, okay, I have to admit this is more complicated. I use Japanese IME, which by default uses US - or some other strange - keyboard layout, so I have overridden its layout setting with the registry editor. It works fine everywhere, except in any of the so-called apps, like edge (in the address bar) store, start menu search (seems like it in fact really is an app)... is there a separate registry entry for app keyboard layouts? strange.. :/
anyway, I realized I can set the language bar to automatically switch layouts between programs, so I just set it to use the standard UK layout for the apps, and IME for anything else.. only problem now, it wont remember these settings after restart :/
